Stephen C. Harris
Stephen C. Harris is an executive producer, writer and creative developer who worked development & production at TLC and A&E for over 5 years. His speciality is nurturing viable ideas into franchise friendly formats. He has over 15 years experience producing 1000 plus hours of programing in both the un-scripted & scripted space distributed across all broadcast platforms.
Most currently, he is running development for Marlon Wayans reality division, Workaholics Entertainment Group. Harris, along with his producing partners Marlon Wayans & Rick Alvarez, teamed up to executive produce the new NBC series “I Can Do That” and the film “Sweet Micky For President,” which won both the audience & jury award for best documentary at Slamdance. They also created the show “Funniest Wins” which was launched on TBS in summer 2014. Workaholics currently has a healthy and diverse development slate with projects in various stages of production.
Harris' career began in his first semester in film school at Howard University where he directed and produced a documentary about the university’s ‘88 homecoming festivities, “ Back To The Mecca.” His immediate follow up project was the Oscar Micheaux award winning music video for the rap group The Defiant Giants, called "Rise."
His first hire out of film school was working video playback on the Wayans film, “Don’t Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood." After that, he worked at the LA music video production company, Propaganda Films as director’s assistant for Paul Boyd & Billy Woodruff. Under their tutelage and guidance, he mastered his skills of producing talent and honed his photographic eye for capturing colors & framing.
He transitioned from music videos & news production to reality in the late 90’s, directing the dating shows "Perfect Partner" and "Date Patrol." His well rounded background of directing, producing, show- running & developing of non-fiction includes everything from games shows, docu-soaps, recreation shows, clip shows, food shows & fashion based programs. Some of these iconic titles stand as historic milestones in reality television; "Wife Swap," "Trading Spaces," "Gene Simmons Family Jewels," "Flip This House," "Double Vision," "I Survived," "Celebrity Ghost Story," "My Ghost Story," "Monster-In Laws," "Basketball Wives," "Running Russell Simmons," "Hammer Time," "Mob Wives" & "The Jacksons."
In 2012, Harris founded his consulting company, Reality Rockstar, which can best be described as a boutique think tank for incubating and producing both un-scripted and scripted content for entertainment as well as for marketing & branding. The company most recently was engaged by Verizon to produce content to launch their new smart home products.
In 2013, Harris jumped head first into the deep end of the entrepreneurial pond, successfully raising $2m for the digital studio start up, “WhatTheFunny.com.” With business partners Marlon Wayans & Rick Alvarez, he co-founded the online platform focused on producing and curating comedic content.
His diverse background of world travel and life education have uniquely helped inspire and influence his experience as a television producer. At the core, he is a team motivator as well as self starter who approaches all endeavors with a calculated strategy designed to produce the strongest results.
